This is the video Billie, Alessandra And Marianne made, as their group project, about deep fakes.
Deep fakes are made of algorithms to generate a new image or video with the original. Most deepfake technology is based on generative adversarial networks.
Benefits:
Making people appear to say or do things that didn’t actually happen. It enters the mainstream consciousness due to both the amazing application of the technology and concerns about its misuse. Can be used to do all of the hard work instead of animators or artists in a movie production.
Deep Fakes can seem fun but it can be very dangerous. Firstly it’s scary for the people that are being impersonated. People can make it look like they said or did something that they didn’t say or do. The bigger problem is that nowadays videos and posts on the internet are constantly being shared, and with all that sharing comes a lot of fake news. A deepfake of a political figure, saying something untrue would definitely add to the fake news. People would have no reason not to believe what the politician is saying. Deep Fakes would therefore help spread misinformation, never knowing what is true or false.
